By accident I found the real problem

Me today-a little exercise 11 to noon

For years I struggled with my weight, headaches, eczema and an overall lack of energy by early afternoon. Now I know to most that all doesn’t sound very painful and to some it might even be considered normal, but believe me when I say it was mentally excruciating, even kept me in tears at times! I was not a happy camper then.

Back then I purchased every other weight loss product, pill, program, joined health clubs, diet clubs and fitness centers, bought and read dozens and dozens of weight loss books and skinny cooking magazines, all with little to no results. In the mean time for headaches I took aspirin by the bottles full and used all kinds of lotions and potions for my eczema. And most of this was purchased at times that I could least afford it but felt I needed it because it might work. Sound familiar?

Have you ever reached a point of being absolutely fed up with all the promises and hype from products and services? I did, but my weight was totally out of control, on top of that I was tired of watching my someday drawers take over my dresser. You know the someday drawer where you put the clothes you plan to wear again “someday” when you’re smaller. I was in total frustration, I didn’t know who or what to believe. I knew that I had to do something or end like my Mother growing so large she refused to move because it took too much energy, sad thing, her doctors agreed with her and said don’t move if it’s strenuous.

I plodded on with my life being uncomfortable in my own body. One day in March I was really down, it was positively the pits. In my desperation I called a lady I had met over a year earlier who had mentioned a little about nutritional cleansing to lose weight, which at the time didn’t make sense to me. As fate would have it she was out-of-town, but her calls were forwarded to her cell phone and we spoke very briefly and she said she would call me in a couple of days when she was back home. She, Carole gave me some websites with testimonials and videos to review and learn more while I awaited her call.

Three days had gone passed, I visited those sites hundreds of times and still was very skeptical. Finally Carole’s call came in! I reached for the phone with all the excitement, emotion and skepticism of a teenage girl waiting for a boy to call. I poured my heart to Carole, and some tears as I told her my story of trials and errors. Carole offered some comforting words, questioned me as to the information I reviewed and answered a couple of questions I had.

Sensing my skepticism I guess, Carole was very straight forward and said: “Diane I’m not a Doctor and I don’t know where you are physically, and I don’t know if this will work for you like it has for the people you read about or the thousands I’ve met, but what if it does Diane?” Needless to say I was taken back, What if it does? I’ve already read dozen of testimonials of people with much more severe problems than I had, that had great results, a money back guarantee and support from Carole and her people. In my first week with the program I gave up 15 inches and 5 pounds and have continued on the program, that was over a year ago. The question is Are You Toxic?

Rapid Influenza diagnostic tests such as those used by doctors’ offices, hospitals and medical labs to identify H1N1 are just about useless and could cause a significant danger to public health, according to a Loyola University Medical Center researcher. Paul Schreckenberger, Ph.D., director of Loyola’s clinical microbiology laboratory said, “I can flip a coin and get the same results as I could with those tests. So what’s the value of the tests? I can flip a coin for free.”

A study available in The New England Journal of Medicine concludes that that one test generated a false negative 49 percent of the time, meaning it detected H1N1 only 51 percent of the time. Another study published in the Journal of Clinical Virology found another test generated a false negative 82.2 percent of the time, detecting H1N1 only 17.2 percent of the time.

In Emerging Infectious Diseases, published by the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), a study found that a test generated a false negative. 88.9 of the time, detecting H1N1 only 11.1 percent of the time. The CDC’s Web site shows data that coincides with the results of its journal. These tests are so inaccurate that physicians are being told by public health officials that they should consider anyone exhibiting flu-like symptoms as infected with H1N1 and then care for them accordingly, Schreckenberger said

“People who actually are infected with H1N1 are being sent home without treatment. Those in high-risk groups could face serious illness,” Schreckenberger said. “As for the others: maybe they go back to work; maybe the children go back to school and infect others.” “False negative test results can only lead to a bad outcome and puts a huge financial burden on the health care payers.” Schreckenberger said.

Do you know that the mostly non-organic “natural” foods and products are the results of chemical-intensive and energy-intensive farm and hydrophonic food factories? Test any of these so-called natural products in a lab and you will find pesticide residues, Genetically Modified Organisms (GMO’s), and a long list of problematic and/or carcinogenic synthetic chemicals and additives.

Choose Certified Organic products over so-called natural products, and tell your retail grocer or coop how you feel. It’s unfortunate, but numerous companies are tacking on misleading or just fraudulent labels and claims to their products, and are charging premium dollars for the idea of healthy food. Companies have realized that a simple label change can be sufficient to draw a share of the growing all-natural movement. And it’s a large market. Major corporations like General Mills, Mars, Kellogg, Unilever, Kraft and Dean Foods have also jumped in to grab some of the profits that are present in organic foods, further destroying the real meaning of labels like organic, and all-natural.

The main question you need to ask yourself is: Does the label really make any sense?

I mean is it even possible for a bag of Quakes Cheddar Cheese Rice Snacks to be made and still be considered a natural health food? What ingredients can be included and still be all-natural and healthy? As an example, how many “natural” products have you purchased lately that contain (HFCS) high fructose corn syrup? The fact is, no matter how natural corn may be, corn syrup is neither natural nor healthy, and if you’re striving for a natural diet, HFCS does not belong. Another part of the problem includes checking your foods for genetically modified You may be surprised to learn that you have a 75 percent chance of picking a food with genetically modified ingredients in the United States. This is because at least seven out of every 10 items have been genetically modified!

A recent study conducted by eight international researchers indicate that the dangers of GMOs are being significantly downplayed or overlooked by the very agencies charged with protecting your health. The results of their study calls into question the reliability of the tests used by the European Food Safety (EFSA) and the U.S. FDA to assess the health risks of GMOs and pesticides. Not to mention the WHO and FAO.

Tracking down GM foods in your local food store, reading labels is oftentimes not enough, although you can check the code on fresh produce to see if it’s a GM variety. Processed foods, do not advertise which, if any, ingredients have been genetically modified, so you’ll have to do your research.

What you should look for on fresh produce PLU:

• A four-digit number means the produce is conventionally grown
• A five-digit number beginning with 9 means it’s organic
• A five-digit number beginning with 8 means it’s GM

Organic fraud may and most likely will hang around for years, but you don’t have to fall prey to their tactics.

Eating plenty of organic foods and maintaining an active, healthy lifestyle are the key if you want to prevent obesity and disease and reduce your healthcare costs. It’s also the only answer to the healthcare crisis in the U.S.; it’s definitely not in health insurance and who pays for it.

How healthy can you really be if you’re regularly taking in pesticides, antibiotics, hormone disrupting chemicals, genetically modified organisms, chemical additives, colors and preservatives, and untold numbers of other chemically-derived byproducts and toxins?

Protect your skin by facing the facts.

Okay we’ve all heard it before, but lets face the facts. Skin cancer is very common forms of cancer with over 100 million Americans are diagnosed every year. It accounts for about half of all U.S. cancer cases, according to the American Cancer Society.

Skin cancer generally develops in the epidermis or the outermost layer of skin, so a tumor or growth is usually clearly visible. There are three common and likely types of skin cancer. Melanoma is less common than basal cell carcinoma and squamous cell carcinoma, but it is the most serious. Non-melanoma skin cancers are the most common skin cancers. The majority of these are called basal cell carcinomas. These are usually localized growths caused by excessive cumulative exposure to the sun and do not tend to spread.

Skin Cancer Facts

One in six Americans eventually develops skin cancer.

Skin cancer is the most common form of cancer in the United States.

Each year there are more new cases of skin cancer than the combined cases of cancers of the breast, prostate, lung and colon.

Lifetime sun exposure is about 23 percent of lifetime exposure occurs by age 18.

Approximately 68,720 melanomas will be diagnosed this year.

One person dies of melanoma almost every hour.

Women aged 39 and under have a higher probability of developing melanoma.

The majority of people diagnosed with melanoma are white men over age 50.

Adults over age 40, especially men, have the highest annual exposure to UV.

Melanomas in African Americans, Asians, Filipinos, Indonesians, Latinos, and native Hawaiians most often occur on non-exposed skin with less pigment, up to 60-75 percent of tumors arising on the palms, soles, mucous membranes and nail regions.

First exposure to tanning beds in youth increases melanoma risk by 75 percent.

People who use tanning beds are 2.5 times more likely to develop squamous cell carcinoma.

The Food and Drug Administration warns against the use of tanning pills. These contain large amounts of a color additive called canthazanthin, which can settle in various parts of the body and damage the retina of the eye, also these pills can also cause nausea, cramps and diarrhea.

Protect yourself by taking cover.

Seek shade during during the hours of 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. when the sun is the strongest. Keep in mind that the sun and u.v. rays will reflect off of water, sand, buildings and pavement.

Use sunscreen with SPF of 15 or higher, reapply every two hours or after swimming. Don’t forget to protect your lips and nose as well.

Wear a large brimmed hat, sunglasses, a long sleeved shirt and long pants.

Drink plenty of water to keep your skin hydrated.

New research in from the Human Health and Nutritional Sciences at the University of Guelph in Ontario, Canada and the Harvard School of Public Health suggest that coffee may even be good for some. While not pushing coffee as a new health drink they admitt that coffee is a beverage of choice for many. The problem is that coffee is a complex beverage with hundreds, if not thousands, of bioactive ingredients, a cup of coffee is 2 percent caffeine, 98 percent other stuff.

Various studies globally now show that coffee, both regular and decaf, actually lowers the risk for Type 2 diabetes, some studies say by as much as 50 percent. Researchers claim that is possibly because of chlorogenic acid, one of the many ingredients in coffee, it slows uptake of glucose (sugar) from the intestines. (Excess sugar in the blood is a cause of diabetes.) Chlorogenic acid may also stimulate GLP-1, a chemical that boosts insulin, the hormone that escorts sugar from the blood into cells. Yet there is another ingredient, trigonelline, a forerunner to vitamin B-3, may also help reduce glucose absorption.

As for its affects on cancer risk, coffee research has come up with zip - with one exception: liver cancer. Research consistently shows a reduction in liver cancer risk with coffee consumption, and there is some, albeit weaker, evidence that it may lower colon cancer risk as well. Coffee somehow seems to protect the liver against cirrhosis, especially that type caused by alcoholism. Because of the complexity of coffee it is not clear, either for cancer or cirrhosis risk, whether it is because of coffee or the caffeine.

It’s the caffeine that carries the benefit against the progressive, neurological illness, Parkinson’s disease. No one knows for sure why caffeine protects. Studies show that coffee drinkers, especially men, appear to have half the risk of Parkinson’s compared to nondrinkers. Women who do not use post-menopausal hormones also benefit, said Dr. Alberto Ascherio, a professor of epidemiology and nutrition at the Harvard School of Public Health. All it takes for a measurable reduction in Parkinson’s risk, he said, is about 150 milligrams a day, the amount in an average cup of coffee.

I just finished this morning online news by reading: Senators dig in on massive health care legislation, got to say this is enough to make one vomit. While using words like “overhauling the U.S. health care system” and “provide successful, affordable, quality health care”, they offer absolutely nothing on health care, instead the focus on money and big business and not the people and their health.

Seems to me this whole thing is about the fat, sick and dieing being able to pay big business for products and services that keep them fat, sick and dieing and not about making or keeping them healthy or disease prevention. Now that to me would be health care reform! This reminds me of gambling in Vegas, everything there pays often enough to make you want to gamble again, here big business offers enough pain relief to those diseased or afflicted to try another pill. In Vegas they give comps to keep you hanging around and spending, here you’re going to get insurance as a comp. But just like Vegas those comps are going to indirectly cost you, here in tax dollars. The real sad part is we are gambling with your and your loved ones health.

Did Grandma tell you “Eat the onions and garlic, it’s good for you?”

If so it was for good reasons! Garlic has long been recommended for various cures. Hippocrates, the ancient Greek physician relied heavily on garlic as a pain killer, and found different potions of it to be effective for both patients requiring surgery and those with flesh wounds. The ancient Egyptians adored garlic. They ate it raw and cooked and believed it to nourish the spirit as well as the body. The Hebrew, living alongside the Egyptians for many years came to value garlic just as much if not more. As Moses led them into the desert and all they had was manna to eat, many complained (Numbers 11:5) “We remember the fish… the leaks, and the onions, and the garlic.” The Jews maintained their love for garlic, and in Roman times earned them the nickname of “the stinking ones”, which was not fair as the Romans used garlic almost as much themselves.

During the 80’s and 90’s many researchers around the world have looked into the use of garlic for reducing blood cholesterol and also treating high blood pressure, as a control for blood clotting an as a treatment for various cancers. They found that garlic eaten regularly can aid in the production of white blood cells, which combats infections, and it can assist in destroying bacteria which attacks the body. Garlic is a vermifuge, which means it can help to rid the body of parasites. Garlic also get rid of unwanted guest such as worms, there are skin disorders which can be cured by garlic, particularly where it has infected the skin such as ringworm and impetigo. If you suffer from warts, garlic eaten regularly can cleanse the lymphatic system and help to rid them.

Here’s an old garlic syrup recipe for coughs and colds:

Pour 1 and ¼ cups cider vinegar into a saucepan.
Add 1 tbsp. caraway seeds and 1 tbsp. fennel seed.
Bring mixture to boil.
Add 4 tbsp. chopped garlic and simmer for 5 minutes.
Strain and return to a clean pan.
Add ¾ cup good natural honey.
Bring to boil again and boil hard for 5 minutes.
Cool and pour into a jar.

For adults take 1 tbsp every 2 hrs. children under 10 take 1 tsp. every 2 hrs.
